Laetitia A Koen

Born in 1987 she was raised in Pretoria and since childhood enjoyed doodling horses, much to the frustration of her teachers.

Art was never a priority or focus growing up but animals especially horses were always an integral part of her childhood and young adult life.

In 2014 she moved to Cape Town with her father to start afresh. Seeing one of his co-worker’s immersed in an adult colouring book he decided to get one for his daughter as a gift, little did he know what an impact it would have.

Getting lost in the colouring book and always interested in learning Laetitia started watching tutorials and reading about different techniques with colour pencils. Upon seeing his daughter rediscovering her love of art he urged her to attend art classes. In November of 2016 Laetitia started her with her first official art lessons. Her mediums of choice when creating portraits are acrylics and coloured pencils.

Under the guidance of Belinda Basson and with the motivation and support of family and friends Laetitia sold her first commission in 2016. During this time her curiosity and thirst for knowledge led her to start teaching herself outside of the art classes and experimenting with various techniques and mediums. She’s influenced and inspired by Lisa Clough, Sheldene Visagie, Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell.

As she became more experienced and saw the joy she could bring to people, she felt confident enough to leave her job as a secretary and pursue a fulltime career in art.

Having grown up with various animals and knowing how powerful and deep the love for a pet can be, Laetitia decided to focus on brining joy to fellow pet owners by creating everlasting memories of their beloved pets.

Being inspired and supported by her fellow art students and art instructor Laetitia decided to open her art studio so that others may also experience the therapeutic effect of creating art in a safe and supportive environment.
